Just Be BOLD
Yesterday I came across this gorgeous picture on Leslie Miller's blog, Running With Scissors. She mentions --> "could a person possibly combine all these colors on a card and get away with it?" Well, I believe the answer is an astounding YES! I challenged myself and I decided to do an Andy Warhol-type of card; I really like the way it came out. What do you think?

I think that what makes this work, is the fact that none of the bordering colors are more than two hops away on the (six-color) color wheel. The contrasting colors (orange and blue) are kept at diagonals from each other, or, in the case of the blue wing segment in the upper right, it's trapped within a yellow background, which provides the proper transition from orange.
So, the lesson here, is that bold colors work (as seen in T's exemplary design), as long as you avoid having bordering colors that sit opposite each other on the color wheel.
Just a little insight from an old graphic design type... :-)
Oh, one more thing... When using bold colors, framing it in a neutral color, like brown, will provide a natural continuity between the colors, and soften the contrast between the bolder colors.
Hi, Tina! You made it work beautifully! I do love the colors together and I'm partial to any kind of color blocking. Your commenter, djpadz (relative?), has some interesting and useful input!
